Breakfast With the Risen Jesus

Reflection
The resurrection of Jesus is the hinge of all history — the moment that split darkness in two and declared that death itself had been defeated. And yet, in the days that followed, the risen Christ did something quietly astonishing: he made breakfast. Not for kings or high priests, but for a handful of fishermen who had been up all night, caught nothing, and were no doubt bone-tired and hollow with hunger.
These were men who had fled on the night of his arrest. Peter had denied him three times by a charcoal fire, and now — tenderly, almost poetically — Jesus meets him again beside another fire, this time offering bread and fish rather than shame and accusation. The resurrection was not only a cosmic triumph. It was personal enough to notice that his friends were cold, that they were hungry, that they needed someone to simply say, “Come. Sit down. Eat.” The risen Lord is not a distant theological concept. He is the one who sets the table.
What does this mean for your Tuesday morning? Or your Thursday, when the week has already worn you thin? It means that the same Jesus who crouched on that Galilean shore — tending coals, laying out bread, waiting with patient love — is present in your kitchen, your commute, your quiet corner before the day begins. Ordinary mornings are not interruptions to the sacred. They are, if we choose to receive them that way, sacred meeting places with the living Christ.
You do not need to manufacture a spectacular spiritual experience before breakfast. You simply need to hear his voice over the noise of your morning: “Come and have breakfast.” He is already there. The fire is already lit. The invitation has already been extended.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you that your resurrection was not too glorious to stoop to the ordinary. Thank you that you noticed hungry fishermen and fed them — that you noticed me. As I begin this day, I ask you to meet me here, in the quiet before the rush, in the first moments before the world makes its demands. I do not come with great faith this morning, but I come. You are the risen Lord, and you are here. Sit with me, speak to me, and let this ordinary morning become holy ground. Amen.
